Although the cause of hypertension or blood pressure is often unknown, Hypertension has many risk factors that can increase the chance of developing the condition. Many diseases have important risk factors, and hypertension is no exception.
The risk factors of hypertension run far and deep. Hypertension or high blood pressure risk factors include:
- Age.
Increasing age as a risk factor for medical conditions, especially to develop of high blood pressure or hypertension. Through early middle age, hypertension is more common in men. Women are more likely to develop hypertension after menopause. - Obesity or Being overweight.
People with overweight are more likely than others to develop hypertension. You have to remember that more you weigh, It's mean more blood you need to supply oxygen and nutrients to your tissues (body). As the volume of blood circulated through your blood vessels increases, so does the pressure on your artery walls. - Diabetes.
People with chronic disease also may increase at risk of hypertension, including diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney disease and sleep apnea. On the people who has diabetes, The doctors should be following their blood pressure as well. - Race.
The African Americans and people of African heritage who have never left the African continent are more likely to develop high blood pressure, because hypertension is particularly common among blacks. Serious complications from hypertension also more common in blacks people, such as stroke and heart attack. - Family history of hypertension.
If your parents have or had hypertension, you have a greater chance of having high blood pressure too, than someone with no family history of hypertension. - Inactivity or no exercise.
Some one with no exercise on his/her lifestyle leads to a weak heart, poor exercise tolerance, and obesity. These condition have been implicated in the development of hypertension. - Using tobacco or Smoking.
The chemicals in tobacco can damage the lining of your artery walls and causing your arteries to narrow, finally will rise your blood pressure. - Use of oral contraceptives.
According to some report, many women are prone to high blood pressure when taking "the pill." - Heavy alcohol consumption.
Those people who always consume of alcohol, they must reduce their habit. People with alcohol problems also tend to have hyertension. Heavy drinking can lead to heart disease, harm the liver and brain. - High salt diet.
If you are taking foods or meals that high in sodium (Na), It can cause your body to retain fluid which increases the blood pressure. - Stress.
High levels of stress can increase your blood pressure, but this will return to normal once your problem is over. - Twin Pregnancy.
Sometimes pregnancy also contributes to hypertension, especially with women who has twin pregnancy. Although hypertension is most common in adults, children may be at risk, too. Mostly the hypertension caused by problems with their kidneys or heart.
